GUIDE TO MUSEUMS IN NAGA CITY

Naga City has always had room for cultural heritage preservation. This has led to the establishment of local museums which have been part of the tourist attractions in Naga City. Museums became a significant asset in tourism. We have museums that showcase what Naga City has to offer when it comes to history, culture, and arts which gives an identity to Naga City. Although there isn’t much demand for museums, Naga City has a few that you can visit. However, some of it needs coordination with local museum curators before your visit.

JESSE ROBREDO MUSEUM

Location: J Miranda Avenue, Naga City
Operating Hours: 9AM-4PM (Tue-Sun)

The Jesse Robredo Museum is the first governance museum built in Naga City, especially in the Bicol region which is managed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). The museum was built to honor the former Naga City Mayor and Former DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo who made a lot of achievements and contributions in the field of public service and governance. The museum is an interactive museum that showcases not only the life of Jesse Robredo but also his great contributions which made him an icon for good governance.

BICOL SCIENCE CENTRUM 

Location: J. Miranda Avene, Naga City
Operating Hours: 9am-4pm (Mon-Fri)
Entrance Fee: P20.00 Student, P25.00 Adult

The Bicol Science Centrum is the only science museum in Naga City. It has been operating for a very long time. However, it was recently improved and renovated by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with the City Government of Naga. The Bicol Science Centrum is also an interactive museum with exhibits and galleries focusing on physics, magnetism and electricity, space and the universe, what lies beneath the earth, marine life, and the land ecosystem. This is perfect for kids and science enthusiasts.

UNC MUSEUM 

Location: University of Nueva Caceres

The UNC Museum is located inside the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) and it houses several artifacts from pre-colonial to Spanish, American, and Japanese Occupation. Apart from the artifacts, it also has a gallery that showcases memorabilia of Jaime Hernandez, UNC’s founding father. Also, UNC has an archive for preserved old books, newspapers, and magazines of which some date back to the 1800s. The old books are mostly books on medicine and law. This is a perfect museum for history enthusiasts.

HOLY ROSARY MINOR SEMINARY MUSEUM

Location: Naga Cathedral Grounds, Elias Angeles St, Naga City

The Holy Rosary Minor Seminary Museum, also known as Museo del Seminario Conciliar de Nueva Caceres is an ecclesiastical museum that houses all the religious relics used in church since the establishment of the archdiocese of Nueva Caceres, old images of saints, bibles and records of students who attended school at the minor seminary, ecclesiastical relics and artifacts used by bishops and archbishops. Moreover, the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary also has a gallery exhibiting on display the unearthed artifacts in Bombon, Camarines Sur through the Bicol Archeological Project (BAP).

PORTA MARIAE MUSEUM

Location: Naga Cathedral Grounds, Barlin, Naga City

The Porta Mariae Museum is the smallest. There is less to see there as of the moment as it only has one gallery but photos, artifacts, murals, and other memorabilia on the life and history of the Cathedral and our devotion to Our Lady of Penafrancia. The Porta Mariae was built to celebrate the 300 years of devotion to Our Lady of Penafrancia.

OUR LADY OF PENAFRANCIA MUSEUM 

Location: Penafrancia Avenue, Naga City

Our Lady of Penafrancia Museum is one of the museums you should visit in Naga because it houses Our Lady of Penafrancia (Ina’s) mantos (capes), crowns, and aureolas that have been used on several occasions, especially during the Penafrancia festivities. There were also dioramas narrating the history of our rich Marian devotion to Ina. The Our Lady of Penafrancia Museum also houses the pagoda used in every fluvial procession to carry the image of Ina from the Cathedral and back to her home in the Basilica. Every September in each year, the Our Lady of Penafrancia Museum brings all of these relics of Ina closer to people by holding exhibits in public places such as malls.

USI MUSEUM

Location: Unibersidad de Sta. Isabel, Naga City

The USI Museum, also known as the Historical Museum of Unibersidad de Sta Isabel, is located inside the Unibersidad de Sta. Isabel (USI). The USI is the very first Normal University for girls in the Philippines and Far East. The USI Museum used to be a chapel but now it currently houses interesting artifacts and replicas of old historical documents like the surrender of the Spanish forces to Filipino revolutionaries. Overall, the USI Museum showcases in its galleries the rich history of Naga and the school’s significant role in shaping education, especially for women.    

MUSEO DE HAYSKULANO

Location: Camarines Sur National High School (Main Campus), Penafrancia Avenue, Naga City
Operating Hours: 9AM-12NN and 1PM-4PM (Mon-Fri, except holidays)

The Museo de Hayskulano is considered as the first museum in a public school in Naga City. The museum showcases the school’s outstanding contributions to Bicol history and culture in the promotion of academic excellence. They actually have beautiful galleries telling the history of the school, notable people in history who are hayskulanos, and the memorabilia of the school’s achievements in different fields through the years.

V GALLERY MUSEUM

Location: Liboton, Naga City
Operating Hours: 9AM-6PM (Tue-Sun)

If you are an art enthusiast, V Gallery Museum is for you. The V Gallery Museum has been hosting monthly exhibits of artwork collections of our local artists. Every month, a new set of artworks are displayed by a local artist. You can get lost in art at the museum and perfect for the gram. Aside from being the home to artworks of local artists, the V Gallery museum also houses the memorabilia of the Naga College Foundation (NCF) and the Villanueva Family. There’s a lot of interesting vintage stuff here too.
